A Place To Go
2002. This album is contemplative and ambient, dealing with the subject of loss and recovery.
The overall sound is intended to have a gentle, reflective mix of cool piano, ambient exotic keyboard sounds, lyrical bass lines, light electric & elegant acoustic guitar, and ambient whispery vocals.
Thanks to Tom Cantwell on guitar and vocals, Addo Koranteng on drums, and guest Lewis Watson on saxophone (track two).
Listen to excerpts from the songs here.
'Healing (part 1)' The story begins with this gentle airy vocal, featuring piano and acoustic guitar.
'M.V.G.' Just soprano sax and piano – a wistful jazz-style ballad instrumental featuring Lewis Watson on saxophone. Complex unremitting chords and tense rhythmic pulls feature here where the two instruments weave around each other.
'A Place to Go' Laid back funky feel with raw low-key vocals and exotic keyboard timbres. Feaures sounds from the Orient (and the Proteus 2000).
'Book at Bedtime' Jazz trio style, a homage to Oscar Peterson - a top man of piano jazz.
'Sleep' Latinesque percussion leads a full band sound, the vocals enhanced with the singing talent of Tom Cantwell.
'Transcendence' A ballad, just piano and vocals. Just look to the sky....
'Healing (part II)' It takes time.
'Coda' A succint goodbye.
'Creative Consciousness (bonus track)' An instrumental describing saying farewell for now.
